Offtopic discussions+BMLH's Music

Post  bigmclargehuge on Mon Mar 29, 2010 3:17 pm

I created this thread so we can discuss things outside of the ACTA and the ever powerful GCPU. This thread is for hilarious tomfoolery and/or sharing things that don't ft anywhere else.

I'll start off by linking a bunch of my work (some of you might have heard a few from the religion thread, no worries I've got plenty more then the 5 I had shared)

I have quite a few songs and I am always making a new one at pretty much any given time (so bear with me, lots to link here) Oh and if your curious, I use FL Studio (somewhere between versions 6 - 9; it depends on the date I made the song).

First we will start off with the Theme song of Pirateology, Binary Buccaneers! - http://www.box.net/shared/ayhhro2f8p

Next comes a favorite of mine called Kwesting - http://www.box.net/shared/7qus659tfd

Another favorite of mine, Lucidity - http://www.box.net/shared/pabm9joqhl

I really enjoy making relaxing songs that take you on a journey, so expect that in a lot of my songs, like Fluidify - http://www.box.net/shared/m13lrx5i0k

This one is sort of a weird.. spacey sounding song that I never finished (lost my project files in a data corruption Sad ) Funky Blips - http://www.box.net/shared/ixroib0vz6

Sometimes i try really cool ideas in songs. Usually it's a great thing but sometimes I create a monster so foul only the scalding power of the GPCU's heatsink could kill it! thankfully Gefarce isn't one of those songs! Gefarce - http://www.box.net/shared/b2oh7vgsqi

Now here is an interesting one... Hiphop beats with an electronic feel to it. Made it for a friend who was having a tough time. Gettin' Shanked - http://www.box.net/shared/qfoks46x1h

Lol what can I say about this one? I have an odd sense of humour. GOAtse - http://www.box.net/shared/zqdgbnoklj

Here is another relaxing song i made (first one I ever made on the new FL Studio 9!) Floating - http://www.box.net/shared/1vrcpbrtq8

Now these two.. aren't really songs.. more then they are just me testing something (I can't stand not building a song around them however, so they might still seem like songs.. but i don't classify them as such) they are Drum Fun - http://www.box.net/shared/1vkq24ftql & Charley Manson WTF - http://www.box.net/shared/s0nqzk4v11

Ok normally I don't do much hiphop music but I was dared to do one from scratch and in 24 hours. This was my first hiphop song ever, I think it turned out great. Classirap - http://www.box.net/shared/s7ic6st4hh

Here are two songs I made when I was on a "flute" trip lol. they are pretty cool (I'd say) Flute is Good For You - http://www.box.net/shared/0qvg55x3l7 & Flute Rollup(lol) - http://www.box.net/shared/a6ffhullcd

I don't remember too much about this song.. just enjoy it I guess? Sad Happy Thing - http://www.box.net/shared/esfjazjm16

They are beats! They are smooth! song title writes itself! Smooth Beats - http://www.box.net/shared/di6pli0bam

I'm running out of things to say.. blah. Super Fun - http://www.box.net/shared/0n9qomjhyc

Ah... here we have a great song. I am really proud of this one. I think it defines the emotion really well. Trust - http://www.box.net/shared/r96b7xj1kf

Alright I think it's time I ended this huge list with one more song. This one is about 9 or 10 months old now. Under Rolling Skies - http://www.box.net/shared/411y4rii1d

Anyways.. that's my list of songs (that I'm willing to share.. I have tons that suck and don't belong on a forum Razz)

May GCPU have mercy on your soul if you quote this whole thing.

I didn't quote it all because GCPU doesn't like unnecessarily long quotes, but BMLH, who I'm now going to refer to as Aeronic,
This.
Shit.
Is.
Good.
I would almost consider paying for your music before pirating it.

Lol glad you like it. There is no need to pirate it however, since i'm giving it freely. I feel music should be free. Afterall.. I can sing a song out loud or in my head (that I didn't make), but that doesn't make it pirating when I get someone else singing the same song, just sharing an experience/idea.

I think the whole media industry needs to calm the fuck down and embrace the idea of p2p. They are losing more money with their stupid RMA and by pushing people away from them by being so awkward.. if they would try p2p distribution they would find more willing customers and fans. When you don't feel threatened by someone who is offering a product, your more likely to get that product in a way that benefits both parties (p2p STILL benefits the bands, more people hear them and they grow more popular).

TRUST me.. if we didn't have p2p.. I doubt anyone would have heard my music. It's not that I want to become famous or anything.. I just want people to hear and enjoy my creations.

I guess you can consider Classirap as sorta rap.

when it comes to Rap beats however, you can't get much better then Ronald Jenkees. I find him quite an inspiration. We are pretty similar artists, we both taught ourselves to play (however he had more actual musical schooling then I did.. I'm like 96% self taught)

It's all in his post lol o_o Frooty Loops, and at least one rap beat, possible others that he didn't like.

Sorry, didn't read the full post, just went straight to the music Embarassed
Anyways, I liked the Classirap. Would you mind if I sent this into a rapper who is open to beats sent in by fans? If he likes it, he'd probably release it on his next album. He's not really all that famous, but he's loyal to his fans Who knows, you might even get paid, but probably not Smile

but yeah even if no money is made, it'd still be cool to hear lyrics on the song.

I've done it before. I don't really have a very good music setup (no midi port on the comp and no usb midi port either). So I pretty much have to do everything with the mouse and keyboard.

as long as you don't mind synthed sounds I can usually do it lol

Well, I'm a huge fan of Freddie King, and a huge fan of your skill, so I was wondering if you could make a Freddie King-esque blues jam?

Practice like a mofo. I've been making music since I was a toddler (of course then it was just noise.. but hey that still counts)

I play the keyboard btw.

Now I've spent about 6 or so years fiddling around in FL Studio.. I'm good but there is so much left to learn. Like editing.. not so good at that yet.

So yes practice really does help. One way I learned how to play was to listen and copy parts of a song (emulated music works great for this because in most players, you can mute channels to see how a certain part of the song sounds)

Regarding Binary Buccaneers.. that was an entirely new way to play for me. I'd never done something quite like that before and man did i have fun making it. I guess you could say:

time+practice=skill and skill+inspiration = art

If you want to learn how to make music.. I suggest FL Studio. It's got a slow learning curve and a shitload of support.

I don't know about that. If I had access to a midi port it wouldn't be so bad.. but recording in a blues timestamp with swing is difficult with just a mouse and keyboard lol. It's one of the reason I usually do relaxing songs (easy to make with my setup)

Well the only thing that you could do would to buy equipment to upgrade my setup.. but rather then do that.. I'm going to be attending school (hopefully shortly) and delving into the career of audio mixing. however I'll most likely be in school for (minimally) a year.

Once I've learned a whole bunch of tricks from professionals.. I'll be unstoppable! {insert evil bwahahaha here}

It's one thing to play music on a computer.. playing a real instrument is a whole different feeling. If I knew how to play the guitar, it wouldn't take me very long to adapt his style of play. Once I have a feel of how to actually play like that, I can usually put it down via computer.

For me, experience is everything. That's usually the quickest and easiest way for me to learn how to play a certain way.

So far I know how to play most genre's that are made with computers, and some piano styles of play. other then that however.. i'm pretty clueless. One of my goals in life is to learn how to play as many instruments as I can, and master as many as well. No easy task but I find it fun.

If you master piano, you can learn any instrument. Or so they say. Because everything is based off the piano. After that, I'd go with Guitar because it's the most adaptible instrument you can learn.

Thanks bro! I take that as a pretty high compliment. I really love chiptune music(always have). I remember playing tons of Chrono Trigger music as a kid when I got my first keyboard.

I used to be able to name what trackname and game a song came from as a kid.. not sure I can do that so much now.
