Ok the chances of anyone getting arrested even under the new law is like 1 in a million its far more likely that a few fines will be handed out. Secondly if you mean you are using their wifi then yes of course they can trace it but that would only happen if your unsuspecting neighbour recieved a fine and appealed it then they would have to investigate it and pull the logs out which would take them lots of man hours for little return! also chances are your neighbour is also DLing copyright stuff so would think nothing of recieving a fine!

A word of caution! Im a dj and had to look into the legality of copyright infringement and in the uk the fine for passing on an illegal file is £125,000 for each mo foing one. this is where things get stupid! think about it just go through your drive and add up each file you DLed (and seeded or copied for a mate) then multiply that by 125000!!! lots of money that none of us have! What are they going to do put us all in jail at a cost of £30,000 per year to the tax payer? And after they put 80percent of the western world in jail for not paying multi billion pound fines there wont be any tax payers!! this law will be used to frighten and disuade people from sharing. oh and 1 more thing a friend of mine had a visit from the police the other day about some pictures of guns on his facebook profile (we play airsoft they look real but are toys owned legaly) they said they were found while doing routine checks made legal by anti terror laws in the uk! seriously WTF and all this bullshit about fighting wars for freedom! more like free doom! personally i hope the oil becomes prohibitivly expensive soon and the world colapses in a firery copyright infringed version of the tribe!!! Yeah I download through my neighbors internet too. They are at work often so they do not notice.

I read in the newspaper that the game developers Activision were suing an elderly couple for uploading a game for a console they did not own and that got me thinking. Just think of all the people that will be wrongly accused to piracy and they will be taken to court and how much is that going to cost?
I mean if 15,000 people AT LEAST are doing the same with there neighbors internet and the neighbor is taken to court (and they don't DL torrents at all) imagine how much that will cost.....

if the ISP track me down, will they take my neighbor instead of me? since im using his ISP provided internet?
or will they know from my mac address?

Under the supposed new law.. they would get a warrent to check your neigbers. If they check the router they will see more MAC's then their are appliances in their house. They could make it easy and hold your neigburs resposible.
Or If they would persist in "justice" they could exclude their macs from the one doing the illigal stuff, triangulate your signal, (like with illigal radio) and get a warrent for your place.

Again it is not super likely but the main thing is its possible if those bills pass to be laws...
and somewhere allong the line the rule will be enforced harder..
also if freedom of speech, and freedom of free information can be overruled whats next?

and yes following will be seen a lot more:

WOW!!!!!!

So you're saying the feds can bash down some old ladies door, because they "THINK" she is illegally downloading copyrighted material.....but once they get into her PC, and find out that she was not the downloader, they can have the right to search the EFFIN neighbors.

This will fly over like a lead friggin balloon.

Let's say, she has 3 or 4 immediate neighbors in reach of her internet wifi.

I see this all going south real fast for the authorities.

sounds like the FEDERAL FRIGGIN GOVERNMENT TO ME!!!! aw man, i can only imagine these EXACT conversations in an NRA forum somewhere!!! the national guard in conjunction with the new orleans police department (an unconstitutional duo) ran into civilian houses across New Orleans beating down doors and searching and destroying (what was left of) their houses. There's even video of, you named it devildog(oorah!), elderly women bruised and beaten by the forces. Why where they doing this??? Because in a state of National Emergency, such as hurricane Katrine, there is LAW stating a LIST of your "unalienable" rights that are aloud to be infringed upon. ONE of which is your right to bear arms.

in conclusion, if your federal government legal can, in fact, DID(and you can bet they will again!) storm into old ladies houses, beat them, complete a full search for LEGAL GUNS and move onto the next house.... What makes you think they won't do it to "illegal downloads". In this case the offense is ACTUALLY deemed illegal. be weary my friend! be weary

dudes, dont use your neighbours internet. if they gte busted, it will make us look really bad, and also i hope, make you feel like shit.
unless your neighbour is an MP, or works for the people trying to shut us down. then download several tons of fetish porn through it. and i literally mean tons. download so much that your hard drive gets heavier with the data.

math is too hard. BTW in UK, police look through ppl's profile pics?...

I don't know, but I suspect that Lawforces (worldwide) have very sofisticated software to scan the net automatically, (in Sweden a while ago all trafic going in and out of Swedish networks is scanned or might be scanned if "The Suites" think it would be appropiated - I guess "The Suites" almost allways find that´s the case) the software is very good at detecting different faces in case some wanted person is popping up, I guess guns and other stuff is easier to detect (unless it is good replicas - then you have a false positive)
